Match Report

Oxford City 3 vs MK2, Sunday 25th Feb 2007

Report by James (who supports Spurs if you didn't guess)

The Mighty Bucks entered the game last night knowing that the OKA League 2 would lay with the team able to score the most goals. A win would be par for the course, but a comprehensive victory with loads of goals would be equally important.

The day had started well with the hooligan element of North London embarrassing themselves and losing in the Cup final, then Bolton being trounced by an in form Spurs side. If the Bucks could pull off a performance similar to that of Spurs, surely we could be in with a chance of league glory?

Despite being forced to play with the handicap of Paul Doodle, the 2nds were able to field a strong side, Divisions being:

Kat, Monique, Mark (skipper) and Steve, then the ‘A’ team of Amanda, Mandy, Paul and James.

Despite Oxford City 3s strong following, there was an uneasy tension in the air, they knew there were going to be in for a hard time, and Bucks 2s did not disappoint.

The ‘A’ team started in attack and quickly scored two goals through Amanda ‘I never miss’ Williamson being ably assisted by Paul ’assists are more important than goals’ Doodle. Change round was made and skipper Mark Walters, lead his team to some very slick exhibition korfball. Brilliant work under the post from both Steve and Monique resulted in two more Korfs to let the most dangerous division in Oxfordshire Korfball resume the attack. Once again MK proved far too good in attack with Amanda and Mandy failing to miss the goal and scoring twice in such speed that it made James and Paul look and feel insignificant and vowed not to pass to the girls until they had proved their worth.

Which they promptly didn’t after numerous confusions as to who they were supposed to be marking in defence and thanked their lucky stars that the Oxford player missed his penalty.

Half-time saw MK2 10vs0 up, revealed Monique’s plan to allow Kat to do all the running while she marked the post… and showed the determination of the team not to let up and crush the opposition spirit.

The Team knew Oxford would come at us with the introduction of a couple of more experienced players, but we showed our composure and absorbed the impetus of a refreshed Oxford side. Steve, our Scottish representative, clearly relived that there were no Italians on the pitch scored a swift running in. Normal service appeared to be resumed, but Oxford and MK traded a couple of goals. Although never going to be able to catch us, MK decided to re-apply the pressure and through the determined running of Kat and the constant interceptions of Amanda, Mandy and Paul, cruised to an truly comprehensive victory.

Quote of the game from Mandy ”I don’t think I’ve broken the bone I’ve just bruised it” well done for hobbling on.
